A Personal Thank You...

To My Valued Friends & Customers,

Today is my last day at the helm of Ruff Ruff & Meow… a business that I helped to start over 10 1/2 years ago. Never could I have imagined that my little inkling of an idea would grow into the brand that it has become today & I am proud. I am thankful for all the amazing memories and people that I've met along the way and am ready to hand over the torch.

Business will continue to run as normally and I trust that you will welcome the new owners with open arms. I will work alongside them to assure as smooth a transition as possible and will stay on as a consultant from time to time.

Lastly & most importantly, I want to take a moment to say “Thank You” to my friends and customers whose loyalty, business and friendship throughout the past 10 1/2 years warms my heart to it’s core. Thank you for your business, your laughter, your photos and your stories throughout the years! I truly love you all!

I have enjoyed getting to know each & every one of you & wish you all a happy holidays and healthy & prosperous 2014!

8 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE THIS HALLOWEEN

Attention, companion animal caretakers! The ASPCA would like to point out these common-sense cautions that’ll help keep your pets safe and stress-free this time of year. If you do suspect your pet has ingested a potentially dangerous substance, please call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435

1. No tricks, no treats: That bowlful of candy is for trick-or-treaters, not for Scruffy and Fluffy.

Chocolate in all forms—especially dark or baking chocolate—can be very dangerous for dogs and cats. Symptoms of significant chocolate ingestion may include vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, increased thirst, urination and heart rate—and even seizures.
Candies containing the artificial sweetener xylitol can be poisonous to dogs. Even small amounts of xylitol sweetener can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar, which leads to depression, lack of coordination and seizures. In cases of significantly low blood sugar, liver failure has been known to occur.
Ingesting tin foil and cellophane candy wrappers can pose a choking hazard or cause intestinal blockage.

2. Popular Halloween plants such as pumpkins and decorative corn are considered to be relatively nontoxic, yet they can produce gastrointestinal upset should pets ingest them. Intestinal blockage could even occur if large pieces are swallowed.

3. Keep wires and cords from electric lights and other decorations out of reach of your pets. If chewed, your pet could experience damage to his mouth from shards of glass or plastic, or receive a possibly life-threatening electrical shock.

4. A carved pumpkin certainly is festive, but do exercise extreme caution if you choose to add a candle. Pets can easily knock a lit pumpkin over and cause a fire. Curious kittens especially run the risk of getting burned or singed by candle flames.

5. If you do dress up your pet, make sure your pet costume isn’t annoying or unsafe. It should not constrict the animal’s movement or hearing, or impede his ability to breathe, bark or meow. Take a close look at your pet’s Halloween costume and make sure it does not have small, dangling or easily chewed-off pieces that he could choke on. Also try on costumes before the big night. If your pet seems distressed, allergic or shows abnormal behavior, consider letting him go au naturale or donning a festive pet bandana or well fitting tank top or hoodie such as the "Trick for a Treat" ones found at Ruff Ruff and Meow. http://www.ruffruffandmeow.com/search.php?search_query=halloween&x=0&y=0

6. All but the most social dogs and cats should be kept in a separate room away from the front door during peak trick-or-treat visiting hours. Too many strangers can be scary and stressful for pets.

7. When opening the door for trick-or-treaters, take care that your cat or dog doesn’t dart outside.

8. IDs, please! Always make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet escapes and becomes lost, a collar and tags and/or a microchip can increase the chances that he or she will be returned to you.

Dogs Take to the Catwalk in Ruff Ruff and Meow Fashion Show

Caroline Leedom, the founder and CEO of Ruff Ruff and Meow, Orange County's most recognized brand in pet apparel co-hosted the Fido Frenzy Fashion Show with Alice Kim, founder & CEO of Refresh Talent. The show was held on at the main stage at The District Tustin Legacy on Saturday, September 8th. The event, sponsored by Orange Coast Magazine included not only a pet fashion show featuring Ruff Ruff & Meow, Vans & Madison Bleu, but also booths showcasing pet-related businesses in Orange County, but also treats for the dogs, a DJ, and the announcement of Orange Coast's Fido Frenzy pet photo contest winner. It was a fun day had by all.

Looking to Adopt a Dog?

Calling all Southern Californians: We had the honor of outfitting this sweet, sweet dog at our headquarters earlier this week. When we heard the story of how "Major" was found (on the 405 fwy after being dumped out of the car by his owners) we pledged to help spread the word about this this sweet, neutered and housetrained 1-year old in the hopes of his finding a loving foster or forever home.

Major was brought to The Grove in Los Angeles, CA this week sporting an Adopt Me T-shirt from Ruff Ruff & Meow in the hopes of attracting attention & a possible foster or forever home. From the look of this photo he definitely seemed to have gotten lots of well deserved attention and love.

Bacchus Doc in a Box

Ruff Ruff & Meow will support ALL worthy causes... even if they're not pet-related! A worthy cause is a worthy cause!

Our most recent support at Ruff Ruff and Meow goes to Doc in a Box which is is an amazing organization that takes standard shipping containers and converts them into mini mobile medical facilities. They transport them to remote areas of the world bringing much needed preliminary health care, clean water and education to areas in need. Clinics are designed to meet the local needs and conditions and are built using sustainable building methods. Interior features include examination area, medical supplies, refrigeration, water filtration and record storage. The clinics are fully insulated, have good ventilation and electric lighting. Clinics can also be run off of wind, solar or a local power supply. The clinics also double as a much needed multimedia classroom uniquely designed on the outside of the box to provide health awareness.
